Shortly approaching is another fun event in the Blackdown Shepherd Huts calendar – The Melplash Show. Held on 22nd August in Bridport, Dorset, The Melplash Show is a celebration and the South West’s Premier Agricultural Exhibition. Whilst we are of course looking forward to this event, we are also big believers of making the most of anything. If you are joining us in Dorset at the end of the month, why not make it an adventure by visiting some of the local treasures too – here are our favourites.

Jurassic Coastline

Getting back to and being as close to nature as possible is certainly one of our favourite past times at Blackdown Shepherd Huts, which is why the stunning sights of the Jurassic Coastline is a must see when in Dorset. Bridport sits just one mile away from the famous cliffs of the coast and lends its to being a perfect base town so you can explore to your heart’s content without having to travel far.
On top of the breathtaking cliffs, the Jurassic Coast is also known for standing the test of time, a little like our shepherd huts! As well as hiking and exploring, you can also take part in activities such as fossil hunting, perfect for those who love to make and take a little history with them.

Fishing Boats and Water Lifestyle

Also incredibly near to Bridport is the now very popular town of West Bay, which some you may recognise from the TV show Broadchurch. West Bay, however, is far more than just a pretty and scenic landscape for filming. Its history lies within the water and its heritage deep rooted in fishing. So if you are a keen fisher or love the sound of water, West Bay is an absolute must on your to visit list.

Quirky Marketplaces and Antiques

If you don’t want to travel to far, then don’t worry… Bridport itself is full of its own wonders and history, especially in the shopping scene. Home to quirky marketplaces and antique quarters, Bridport is home to a celebration of art, culture and has quite a strong food scene. For those who know us at Blackdown Shepherd Huts, you know we can be quite big foodies, so we can definitely recommend the food scene here at Bridport.
So, if you are a foodie or love to support your small businesses like we do, then why not visit the emporiums, factory shops and markets of Bridport.

The Melplash Show

Of course, we couldn’t finish this blog post without a little mention of The Melplash Show itself. On the day, there will be plenty of events for you to enjoy from Sheep Shows, a Freestyle Motorcross Display and even a visit from the Kings Troop Horse Artillery, as well as plenty of food stalls and trade stands for you to get lost in. In fact, we will be at The Melplash Show and with us bringing a few of our huts for you to explore. We will be sharing which huts we will be bringing soon in our next newsletter so why not sign up here to be the first to know!

If you haven’t already, why not book your tickets in advance for a slight discount! We hope to see some of you there.
