A lot of time and thought has gone into creating our display area for you to visit and see our shepherd huts. The following is an overview of what we have here at the moment, best enjoyed over a cup of coffee and a chat with Jamie.

The Heritage Turnkey Shepherds Hut from Blackdown Shepherd Huts

Heritage Turnkey Hut

The Heritage Turnkey hut provides you with the perfect visual reference to the history of Shepherd Huts. Clad in our 0.7mm galvanised steel, painted in a choice of colours, and mounted on a metal chassis or optional oak chassis, they offer an exceptional opportunity to add an extra room or space to your life. They’re fully fitted with a pull-down wall bed, kitchen, wood burner and shower room. The only decisions before you turn the key and start your hut journey is what view you’ll sit from the stairs to enjoy and maybe if you want some extras like a wardrobe or a glass roof section.

Modular Turnkey Hut

Combining flexible seating with all of Blackdown’s quality and attention to detail, the Modular is a great solution for glamping businesses. You’ll find a bespoke oak kitchen area, shower room with toilet, and log burner, in addition to the modular seating area that allows parts of the L-shaped bench seat design to be moved around to create the perfect space for couples and groups. And of course, the Modular comes with pull down bed that’s as easy to pull down at night as it is to put up in the morning.

Brace Hut

The Family Brace uses the famous Blackdown Brace design (where two shepherd huts are joined together), but in a new way that will sleep up to five people in comfort. In the Family Brace you’ll find a fixed double bed with overhead single bunk, a luxurious pull-down double bed, shower room with toilet, dining area complete with stargazer glass roof section, bespoke oak kitchen area, and L shaped sitting area complete with log burner and mirror TV. Perfect for the venues looking to provide stunning family accommodation without compromise.

Workspace Hut

Our new Workspace hut has been designed and built by us to provide a Blackdown solution to the need to work from home in a purpose-built beautiful office or studio space. When we designed our Workspace we created it with flexibility to provide you with the perfect home from home space, with room for everything you need to comfortably operate from. A place where technology meets a heritage feel and there’s space for all to be. You just need to decide where to put the coffee machine.

The Retreat

Our wriggly tin hut offering is called our Heritage Hut as it is based on an old Victorian shepherd’s hut and we feel it really captures the vintage hut look and it makes the perfect Retreat hut. This hut provides you with an idyllic place to nurture your needs, whether that’s with a garden room, an artist studio or a library. It can be painted externally in a choice of colours and comes ready for you to let your own imagination explore the wealth of opportunities ahead.

Your hut will be ready on your delivery date. We will bring it to you and put in exactly the right spot

To start with, Thankyou for my beautiful Shepherds Hut.

From Conception to Construction to Completion it has been a huge success - interwoven with great Communication.

Your attention to detail and being open to new ideas, but still keeping to the ethics of a working Hut is wonderful. - Harry the cat will be for ever greatful for his personal entrance - but will not thank me unless I construct a means of getting up and down!!!

The hamper of traditonal Somerset goodies was a very touching and well thought out touch - thankyou. Shared out with new neighbours and strangers who helped out on delivery day - My Shepherds Hut has attracted a steady stream of interested passers by - may be you should give me a bundle of Blackdown complement slips I can give interested people? - A Shepherds Hut warming party is in the pipe line - will let you know.

Afternoon, I hope all is well.

I am very sorry for any delay in reverting to you on the testimonial which in no way is a reflection of what we feel about the hut!!

As you know when we first met I was sceptical about whether a hut would be even possible in my preferred location, never mind practical and I also had to convince Lisi that it was sensible present to myself. We had been looking at a rival company’s brochure and had pretty much dismissed the venture.

By chance we came across Blackdown and on a free weekend thought we would drop in, just to see. From the outset, the quality of the product on display and the options available reignited my excitement at the prospect. However it was your can do attitude and friendly optimism that really assuaged our concerns and persuaded us to proceed.

Throughout the design and build programme nothing appeared to be too much trouble for you and your enthusiasm ensured that we really enjoyed the process. Even Lisi was won over!!

The big test was really the delivery and managing to instal the hut giving the big logistic difficulties of the site. This went without, so far as I could see, any hitch and was an achievement in its own right.

Six months on the hut is a huge asset to our life and lifestyle. It was thoroughly enjoyed throughout the summer and now that the winter is here, with a small heater installed, it provides a luxurious retreat and haven from TV soaps and dancing programmes! I cannot begin to praise how much added value the hut has given us as well as being a pleasure for just ourselves but also for entertaining friends and neighbours. In short, the hut has proved a brilliant and unqualified investment success. Many thanks to you and all the Blackdown team with whom it was a real pleasure to work.

It was all excellent from start to finish. The options were clearly explained, the choices made and the journey started. The backup was there if we needed it and when I did make a mistake (I forgot to order a floor but in my haste used some of the wall boards on the ceiling and ceiling boards to form the floor) we quickly realised what was wrong and worked through to a sensible solution (I sourced some similar timber boards from my local builders merchant).

We rate Blackdown! Excellent pre and post delivery service. The quality of all the materials from the cast iron wheels to the oak steps are first class. Good attention to detail in the design and all the materials and fixings, with spares, were delivered in one consignment. I would recommend Blackdown for their first class design and quality of their shepherds huts.

Delivery was exactly as promised, Rich arrived and we decided to unload outside the house then tow the self-build through with our small tractor. Customer service was great from the very start from when we went on line to view the options, and useful video clips to meeting at Blackdown to go through the options and see the build process. We needed basic drawings to approach the planning authorities which Alan emailed to us. The excellent self-build instructions and the video were really helpful. During the build we had a few questions which were clarified same day. We liked the friendly approach, the design quality, the instruction support, the oak cladding, the double door design. Although the self-build option clearly saves some money it is also a lot of fun and a great sense of achievement with many new skills learnt.

I am very pleased I took the decision to build a Blackdown Shepherd Hut. It is a quality product that will last for years and grow with the family. It is a good discussion topic within family and down at the pub, and kept me busy for five months. We will be commencing celebration visits from all around to inspect the hut from next week. It has already received very positive feedback from neighbours watching the construction. We are really starting to enjoy it – sitting on the veranda watching the sheep in adjacent field – doing what it was intended for.

We most like the joy our Shepherd Hut brings other people, the looks on their faces when they arrive and the amazing comments about how much they loved their stay. Blackdown Shepherd Huts were highly recommended to us for their quality and customer service, we wanted to support a local business and our research confirmed this. Alan was really approachable and friendly and talked us through the options available. We opted for a self-build kit as we were feeling confident of our skillset.
