Blackthorn Hideaway - a Blackdown Shepherd Huts Tasker Self-Build hut

Liz & Mark moved from London to the Yorkshire area many years ago to raise their two children in a lovely village, surrounded by beautiful countryside.  Today with future retirement plans at the front of their minds they explain how life led them towards shepherd huts, and ultimately a Blackdown Shepherd hut Self-Build Tasker hut.

When & why did you decide you wanted a Shepherd’s Hut?

In early 2022 we were looking to boost our income as we headed toward retirement, and after some investigation decided a shepherd’s hut would be the perfect option.

Why did you pick Blackdown?

We researched quite a few shepherd hut companies, but each time we came back to Blackdown.  They seemed to have the best design layouts and quality for the price.  Plus, we had considered building a hut ourselves and they could provide us with the perfect kit.

Tell us about the hut you picked and why.

Having decided Blackdown was ‘the one’, we travelled from Yorkshire to Somerset in September to visit the factory and show huts.  We were blown away by the standard of workmanship, and the materials in the kit, and so a week later we placed our order for a Tasker Self-Build Hut.

What was the delivery and customer service like?

From order through to delivery in January everything went amazingly well.  And then it was up to us – and the hard work began to bring ‘Blackthorn Hideaway’ to life!

How do you feel now the hut is completed?

It probably wasn’t the best time of year weather-wise to be building outside, and when you’re trying to do it around work commitments, and at weekends, it naturally took us a little longer than we expected.  The hut was primarily, and lovingly built by my husband Mark (a furniture designer) and styled by us both, taking just over 6 months to complete.  Our brief was to build a ‘boutique’ shepherd’s hut with a calm decor to provide our guests with a peaceful, relaxing break away from the bustle of everyday life.  We think we succeeded (and our guests do too).  We finally opened our doors on Airbnb in August and we haven’t looked back.

We are absolutely thrilled with the end result and ultimately we could not be happier with our Blackdown Tasker Self-Build Hut
