Since their arrival to the stunning North Somerset coastal area from London in 2016, Jamie & Lisa have been running high-end holiday accommodation. Initially with their renovated Coach House, adding to this in 2021 with the arrival of two bespoke Blackdown Turnkey huts.
Reframing our Focus
In early 2023 they made the decision to reframe their business model and solely concentrate on the shepherd huts for accommodation, with the Coach House converting into a Retreat/Spa space in 2024. As part of this reframe their 3rd Turnkey is expected later in 2023.
Views all the way to Wales
With the most delightful views out over the Bristol Channel, with Blue Anchor Bay just to the left, Lisa explained the thought process behind where the huts were placed on their 8 acre site. “We made a conscious decision to ensure that each hut not only sat in its own space but didn’t overlook each other. Working closely with the team at Blackdown we chose to have each of our huts constructed without a window looking out over the back. Together with mindful hedge and tree planting in a few years once the hedgerows have flourished further each hut will be hidden entirely from each other.”
Quirky Characters
Each of the huts has been styled differently from the others, so you could easily stay in each one and enjoy a different experience. “Our girl’s individual characters have played a huge part in how each hut looks internally,” Lisa told us, her experience as a designer gave her the perfect place to show her interior styling skills whilst giving each hut every little extra those on a luxury adult break would want.
The Future
Lisa said that once the decision was made to purely offer guest accommodation through the shepherd huts it was a really easy call to order their third Blackdown hut. “After a trip to the show garden we’ve gone for a slightly different look as we’re welcoming a wriggly tin Turnkey, this one called Minnie (the others are Dotty and Charlotte). We’ve earmarked where she’ll sit in the next field and we’re already planning the internal design with the team at Blackdown. We’re very excited!” said Lisa.
The final piece in the puzzle for the family is to convert the Coach House into a Retreat venue. There are lots of ideas for how this may transform but it will be a wonderful addition for the hut guests to enjoy in time.
We can’t wait to see how Minnie fits into the landscape.
