Hayley’s Happy Glamping Hut
When we read statements like this, we get happy! ‘We are delighted with the hut, and coming to The Glamping Show at the weekend definitely guaranteed that for us that we chose the right company for the level of craftsmanship.’
Hayley is blown away by her shepherd hut, and couldn’t wait to tell us all about her plans to create her glamping business.
About you: can you tell me a bit about you and your family?
I’m Hayley, and my husband’s family have farmed on this land for the past 50 years. I am a town girl and I met Tom 10 years ago. We got married here and raised our two children, Katie and Jack, on the farm – both have a wonderful outdoors kind of start to life. We are a dairy farm and have about 250 cows on this site. Living in the countryside is something you take for granted until you go away on holiday or even a night away, but there is no place like home and the surrounding beauty of Dartmoor.
Where are you located?
We are located in Langtree near Torrington, which is half an hour each way between the North Devon Beaches such as Bude or Westward Ho!. In the other direction is Dartmoor National Park, so ideally situated what ever the adventure you may want to go on.
Why did you decide to get a Blackdown Shepherd Hut?
Having never heard of shepherds huts as a holiday retreat until about four years ago. I was looking for something a bit different for our anniversary treat and when searching the online world I came across Dimpsey in Somerset which we went and stayed in and fell in love. From that moment on we wanted to look in to this venture ourselves, and in doing so we found out Blackdown made Dimpsey. It was one of the first huts they made and we looked no further – we knew that was the standard we wanted to have in our own hut!
What will your hut be used for, how many does it sleep etc?
Our hut will be used as a romantic hideaway for those hoping to escape reality and come to the beautiful Devon area, amble through the farm past the cows and down to their very own fishing lake in the quietness of our farm. Guests will be able to gaze at the stars all night with the glass roof above the bed, or relax in the hot tub watching the bats and other wildlife swoop the lake. Hayley’s Hut sleeps two, plus a dog, It has all the amenities of a boutique hotel such as kitchen area, bathroom with shower, robes, towels, logs, a breakfast hamper for your first morning and a tea tray with a little something special. We are about to have an electric hook up point for your car installed too.
Does your hut have a name and inspiration?
Its very original! Hayley’s Hut is named after me because it is a family business and we thought its nice to call it something personal.
Did you decorate the interior yourselves?
I have spent many months selecting the perfect items for the hut, sourcing furniture from a local shop in the nearby town, and buying little treasures here and there. Having selected the fabric myself and getting a handmade business to make them, it is as I imagined it and more – I love every corner as I hope you will.
What will your glamping experience be like?
It is described as a romantic hideaway and this is exactly what its like. Based on a working dairy farm it is located on its own by a fishing lake where you can watch the stars, fish the lake or relax in the hot tub….we hope to create a little sanctuary away from every day life.
What do you love about shepherd huts?
The cuteness factor, that its made to last, the history of what it was once used for, and the quality of Blackdown.
What was the delivery and customer service like?
Alan and the team were 100% fantastic, always there to accommodate changes and answer strange questions on the phone or email. The delivery was flawless; we were worried about the location as it had to go down a steep slope, but we shouldn’t have been worried as it went down no problems and was in place and ready to go within an hour or so from it arriving.
Why would you recommend the hut and why?
The whole experience was fantastic, our hut has been made to the unique little touches we asked for and the quality of the craftsmanship is outstanding
