From Conception to Construction to Completion it has been a huge success - interwoven with great Communication.

Your attention to detail and being open to new ideas, but still keeping to the ethics of a working Hut is wonderful. - Harry the cat will be for ever greatful for his personal entrance - but will not thank me unless I construct a means of getting up and down!!!

The hamper of traditonal Somerset goodies was a very touching and well thought out touch - thankyou. Shared out with new neighbours and strangers who helped out on delivery day - My Shepherds Hut has attracted a steady stream of interested passers by - may be you should give me a bundle of Blackdown complement slips I can give interested people? - A Shepherds Hut warming party is in the pipe line - will let you know.

Afternoon, I hope all is well.

I am very sorry for any delay in reverting to you on the testimonial which in no way is a reflection of what we feel about the hut!!

As you know when we first met I was sceptical about whether a hut would be even possible in my preferred location, never mind practical and I also had to convince Lisi that it was sensible present to myself. We had been looking at a rival company’s brochure and had pretty much dismissed the venture.

By chance we came across Blackdown and on a free weekend thought we would drop in, just to see. From the outset, the quality of the product on display and the options available reignited my excitement at the prospect. However it was your can do attitude and friendly optimism that really assuaged our concerns and persuaded us to proceed.

Throughout the design and build programme nothing appeared to be too much trouble for you and your enthusiasm ensured that we really enjoyed the process. Even Lisi was won over!!

The big test was really the delivery and managing to instal the hut giving the big logistic difficulties of the site. This went without, so far as I could see, any hitch and was an achievement in its own right.

Six months on the hut is a huge asset to our life and lifestyle. It was thoroughly enjoyed throughout the summer and now that the winter is here, with a small heater installed, it provides a luxurious retreat and haven from TV soaps and dancing programmes! I cannot begin to praise how much added value the hut has given us as well as being a pleasure for just ourselves but also for entertaining friends and neighbours. In short, the hut has proved a brilliant and unqualified investment success. Many thanks to you and all the Blackdown team with whom it was a real pleasure to work.

The shepherds hut arrived a few weeks ago and fits into the farm as if it was always meant to be there.

It is so cosy and wonderful for get togethers with friends or for moments of peace and quiet

Dear Al, Will, George, Bridie and all the other lovely people at Blackdown who had a hand in making my beautiful hut,

I ordered my hut (affectionately known as Jabba - yes, yes, I know it's not a pretty name, but it just sort of stuck…) back in June, after my sisters persuaded me that I needed to have a room of my own to escape to. It was an indulgence that I felt a little guilty about but, as soon as I stepped over the Blackdown threshold, I was smitten. All my requests were listened to and worked into what has become the most delightful sanctuary that anyone could wish for.

I wanted to use a 12v battery system which hadn't been done before, but it was never a problem and the whole thing was incorporated into the design so that it is easy to use and just as I wanted.

My delivery date was 6th August and I was so excited except that I was nursing a terminally ill relative in Cornwall at that time. Sadly, I was unable to be there for Jabba's arrival but she was there waiting for me when I returned after two close family deaths within a week. Since then, she has been my sanctuary, my project and my joy and delight.

I have spent many happy hours deciding on the colour scheme and getting things in place to make her truly mine. The last bit of the jigsaw arrives on Wednesday when I will send you some pictures of Jabba as she is now.

Eventually, I am hoping to be able to sit and write my best-seller in there with the dogs lounging in front of the stove but, for now, I just go and sit and reflect on the world and find a quiet that is absent in my everyday life. Even when the wind and rain are unleashing another battering on us, I wander down in my wellies, light the stove, shut the door and forget the world.

How lucky am I? and how clever are all of you at Blackdown?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for designing and building this little home. You are all so good at what you do and I hope that Blackdown goes from strength to strength in the years to come.

Dear William and George,

When we moved into our new home, a 4 bedroom barn conversion in South Devon, I was expecting to have to use the guest bedroom as my home office (very inconvenient when you live in a holiday location with a lot of friends who want to visit). We considered our options which were to either extend into the loft (too expensive) or put a suitable pod/wooden shed in the garden (when I say suitable I mean it would need to blend into the surroundings). During my internet searches for ‘Garden Offices’ I found a few references to Shepherds Huts – something I had not even considered. The more I looked into the idea of a Shepherds Hut the more the idea appealed, especially when I found the Blackdown Shepherds Hut web site with your options to customise the build to exactly meet my requirements.

After visiting you and seeing an example for myself I was hooked and following a few very helpful conversations with yourselves we agreed on the design and delivery date. You were kind enough to send me some photos during the build phase and welcomed me to come and see for myself – great for giving me confidence of the high quality of materials and workmanship!

The actual delivery was painless and following connecting the Hut to the mains the following day I was able to move straight in, meaning we were able to free the spare room for its intended purpose just in time for our first visitors the following weekend – perfect timing!

Well I have now well and truly settled into my new Shepherds Hut and can confidently say it was the right decision (probably half the price of extending into the loft and delivered in half the time). We have the Shepherds Hut located to the side of our house where it already looks as if it was always meant to be there and has become a well known and admired landmark in the local village!

We were thinking of buying a Shepherd’s Hut and pursued our investigations with Blackdown Shepherd’s Huts, we went through their very detailed Website to make our enquiries. We decided to take a look at these Huts down at their lovely premises near Ilminster, Somerset. We were met by George who was extremely helpful and with his help and advice we decided to take the plunge and Dolly Blue as we have named her evolved! What a beauty, everyone who wants to come and visit to see her absolutely loves her. They all say the same thing, that the class of build and the attention to detail both inside and outside the Hut is first class. We were told that it would take 10 weeks from start to finish to build her and my goodness we had a date and they were spot on! In the meantime we were in regular contact with Blackdown, as our specification was important to them to get right, nothing was too much trouble, even when we asked for a chimney just to make her look even more authentic.

We weren’t disappointed on the day of arrival, she looked magnificent, it was so exciting. Where Dolly the Shepherd’s Hut was finally going to rest (for longer than we shall be around), the guys were so careful about how she was sited in her own little garden, ours by the way is not a simple garden to negotiate, but they took such care. She looks wonderful!

We have now set up a very successful Bed and Breakfast, Dolly has a superb king size double bed, beautifully designed and made by professional joiners, she has lovely soft country bed linen. Her inside is just beautiful, a really super en-suite shower room, built in toilet and wash hand basin and a lovely sitting area and the floors are of a beautiful oak. We are just thrilled with her, she is a dream come true and we just hope that all our B & B visitors have a really relaxed and comfortable time and enjoy her just as we do. We even sit down in her and enjoy the beautiful interior with a cup of tea and realise how lucky we are!!

From our very first contact with the friendly and helpful staff at the workshops, right through to the incredibly professional and speedy delivery of our gorgeous hut, it was clear to us that we were going to enjoy every minute of our Blackdown experience. Our search for the perfect outdoor studio has been completely realised by the marriage of practical, solid and dependable construction to subtle design and meticulous craftsmanship. Every detail - from the oak steps, the choice of light fittings, the immaculate joinery, the beautiful paintwork down to the placement of the windows and shelves - fits together perfectly to create a harmonious work space that suits us perfectly. Our only problem is trying to decide whether we prefer it best cool and flooded with light in the summer, or snug and cosy with the stove in the winter!

After a very hectic week, filled with New Forest Show and people admiring my new purchase, I finally have a few minutes to let you know all about it.

Having visited your workshop, Steve, Sue and I expected top quality workmanship – and, of course, that is exactly what you delivered. It was a delight watching the faces of other friends and family as they made a tour of our new hut. Everyone thinks it is just brilliant – even those who compared it to a very pretty or ‘twee’ hut that was at the show.

We think the thing that stands out is your use of best quality materials on which to show-case your top quality skills. So we get the best of both.

This hut will outlive me and hopefully be a joy for the family for very many years to come.

We desperately needed a guest bedroom but an extension was unaffordable and couldn’t be planned and completed in the few weeks I was aiming to take off work between two jobs. I was also looking for something worthwhile that I could do within this time and a Shepherd Hut seemed the perfect solution. Of course there were plenty of jobs that could or should have been done in or around the house but most of these were either too big or too boring to consider.

We did look at other companies some of which do offer cheaper huts but kept coming back to Blackdown , the traditional oak chassis and cast iron wheels supported a level of quality not matched by most other manufacturers. This combined with the option to build the hut myself made the choice straightforward.

A visit to the workshop confirmed what I had read. The hut being finished at the time was stunning and the quality of materials and workmanship was excellent. We settled on a 16 ft hut with oak chassis . I was also extremely pleased when Will agreed to let me work for them for free for a few days , I even promised not to chop my fingers off.

I took delivery of the hut as a complete self build in February and it took me about a month to complete, working on it most week days. You might be quicker but I would plan on allowing that sort of time. If you can only spend evenings and weekends then it will take a bit longer but the result will be worth it.

Even having spent some time working with the extremely helpful and professional team at the workshop, I still ended up calling and texting with various technical questions some daft and some not so daft. The support throughout has been fantastic with my calls always quickly and helpfully answered . The quality of the materials is superb. The oak flooring, for example with its mix of board widths has produced a stunning result , the boards could have all been the same width but it would not look as good and this shows the degree of thought that has gone in to producing these huts. The quantities were right with just enough over to allow me to correct the odd mistake here and there.

The result is a great looking hut which will last, it is incredibly warm and comfortable and far too good for guests. A stolen night in the hut is like I night on holiday. Finished and ready for our guests The first morning, with our guests still asleep.

I would just like to say that I have no conflict of interest and no financial involvement with Blackdown Shepherd Huts unless you count me paying them for a hut. So everything above is based on my experience of dealing with Will and George and I believe they deserve to do well.

It has been an absolute pleasure to have worked with you and the Blackdown team in getting our hut from initial concept through to delivery. Going way back to the end of last year where we were first inspired on our visit to your workshops to this month when those decisions were realised in what is a really beautiful additional room. We have been really busy with the other surrounding areas of the hut to finalise the inside decoration but just looking at each detail in and around the hut I appreciate your high standards of workmanship.

As soon as I took delivery of my Shepherds hut/studio I had many, many compliments from my neighbours about the quality of workmanship and design. It is a lovely cosy environment to work in. I have spent many happy hours in there already.

Both Will and George were completely supportive and helpful throughout the design and making period, which for me, purely because of problems at my end, lasted far longer than it would do normally. Despite this their attention to detail and reassurance at all times, no matter what I asked them to do, was brilliant. They are two of the most patient and supportive guys who really know their stuff. I looked at many other makers and they were certainly the best by far for me.

The shepherds hut was easy to assemble by 2 people who were able to get the hut weather tight in 5 days with the finishing inside taking approx another weeks work. This was slowed because only weekend work time was available and also having to wait for paint/oil to dry between coats.

The hut was easy to assemble with all the major parts fitting together like a 3D jigsaw puzzle. No specialist tools were required other than those used by a typical DIY person. Some tools could make life quicker and easier such as a chop saw (which I own) and a nail gun (which I don't).

Although supplied as a turnkey kit it gave a great deal of satisfaction to build up the hut to it habitable state. The hut nestles in the garden in a sheltered corner yet in a prominent position. Once inside the double glazing and sheep’s wool insulation cut out all noise from the outside world. This truly is our little sanctuary.

We now sit snug from the weather enjoying the view over the fields full of sheep to the village church about 1 mile away. This is how a 'garden room' should be, Warm, dry and cosy.

For the past 6 years, we have dreamt of owning our Shepherd’s hut, here on our farm on the Mendip Hills. After countless days of research in those six long years and visiting numerous shepherd hut makers, we found Blackdown Shepherd huts here in Somerset.

Early one morning in May, we visited George and William with our ambiguous plans, ever since that time, we knew we had found the right shepherd’s hut makers for us, as we progressed through our ambiguous design and increased our requirements, our request‘s were always met with “yes we can do that”. Our self build hut, was on budget, on time, with the help of George and William at Blackdown shepherd’s huts

We ordered a 16 foot by 7foot hut from Blackdown Shepherd Huts with some personal modifications to include a folding double bed, full electrics and lighting and a pair of French doors on one side of the hut.

They delivered to our new house exactly to our deadline, which allowed us to accommodate our Christmas guests. Not only is it functional and beautiful, but their workmanship is of the highest standard and their after sales service can`t be faulted.

They were two of the most pleasant people you could hope to deal with.

Every event with visit with our beautiful catering shepherds hut people stand and admire. Driving through villages people stand and stare and always smile as we pass by.

when arriving at an event watching others struggle with their Gazabos we just unhitch drop the legs and have a cup of tea.

We are now approaching some really big events to test us to the limit and see how we cope. So now boys I just need a living hut and my dream will be complete parked side by side I wont need to drive home each day just stay in my bedroom next door.

Their pre and after sales service is really good – nothing is too much trouble. All our questions were answered swiftly and I have even had e mail conversations with George at 9pm on a Saturday night. That shows real dedication! The delivery, was bang on the date promised, and although quite tricky to say the least, was done with a smile and we were made to feel it was no trouble at all. (It was!!!) To Will, George, Alan, Bridie and everyone at Blackdown Shepherd Huts Thank you all so much for your hospitality, advice, help and especially your patience, in helping me (us but mostly me), achieve the dream shepherd hut goal.

It was a pipe dream for more than ten years but within a week of visiting you at Blackdown, was on the way to becoming a reality.

When Will delivered our self-build to Manor Farm back in October it was a wonderful day. The way he drove in and unloaded it in the barn was almost too exciting, but then it sat there for two weeks until the weather broke and John could make a start.

The villagers of Aust have enjoyed watching it's progress and more than one has expressed an interest so, hopefully, next year you will have them visiting you to place orders. Milly hasn't got her own shepherd hut yet but it will happen in the new year and when it does I'll send a picture.

And we had a Christmas miracle! Joy of joys, John arranged for the farmer who rents our land to help him lift the hut into the garden. With just the log burner left to install, we're almost there.

So to all at Blackdown we hope you have a very Hapy Christmas, a healthy and busy 2016 and that you enjoy the travelling George.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for our truly wonderful new hut. We absolutely LOVE it, and it has been much admired!

Having been here for a week, and experienced some very interesting weather conditions, our hut is now fully settled in, completely equipped and looking fabulous!

It has been slept in three times already, and I’m beginning to wonder whether our bedrooms will be needed anymore!

I’d also like to thank you for the very professional installation, and of course, for the generous welcome hamper which was a lovely surprise.

It was all excellent from start to finish. The options were clearly explained, the choices made and the journey started. The backup was there if we needed it and when I did make a mistake (I forgot to order a floor but in my haste used some of the wall boards on the ceiling and ceiling boards to form the floor) we quickly realised what was wrong and worked through to a sensible solution (I sourced some similar timber boards from my local builders merchant).

Very good – the chaps from Blackdown arrived exactly when they said they would and had the hut off the low loader and installed on the hard standing within a couple of hours. We also had some very useful advice before delivery so that we could set up the site properly, and the hut fitted precisely where we wanted it to go. All we had to do was connect up the services and we were ready to go. The build quality is outstanding-by far the best that we have seen, and we’ve seen a lot! Everyone who has seen it has commented on the quality, and it’s beautifully designed and made too.

The service from Blackdown was great. My partner and I came to see Alan and discuss our requirements then my friend (who made the cushions) and I visited the workshop when the hut was being finished. The delivery went smoothly despite there being a narrow access and a tricky small space to align the hut on its base. The Blackdown team were excellent throughout. I would definitely recommend the Hut for the cleverness of its design, particularly the foldout bed, the high standard of craftsmanship and materials used and the attention to detail. The Blackdown team were a pleasure to deal with and clearly take pride in their excellent product.

Delivery was exactly as promised, Rich arrived and we decided to unload outside the house then tow the self-build through with our small tractor. Customer service was great from the very start from when we went on line to view the options, and useful video clips to meeting at Blackdown to go through the options and see the build process. We needed basic drawings to approach the planning authorities which Alan emailed to us. The excellent self-build instructions and the video were really helpful. During the build we had a few questions which were clarified same day. We liked the friendly approach, the design quality, the instruction support, the oak cladding, the double door design. Although the self-build option clearly saves some money it is also a lot of fun and a great sense of achievement with many new skills learnt.

Alan and the team were 100% fantastic, always there to accommodate changes and answer strange questions on the phone or email. The delivery was flawless; we were worried about the location as it had to go down a steep slope, but we shouldn’t have been worried as it went down no problems and was in place and ready to go within an hour or so from it arriving. Really, really pleased! When I needed a little adjustment Will came down and sorted it out, nothing was too much trouble. But to be honest the attention to detail in the hut has been great. I am very pleased I took the decision to build a Blackdown Shepherd Hut. It is a quality product that will last for years and grow with the family. It is a good discussion topic within family and down at the pub, and kept me busy for five months. We will be commencing celebration visits from all around to inspect the hut from next week.
